Patchy and Calico are Ready for Spring

Spring has sprung
The grass is riz
I wonder where my doggie is.....
Patchy and Calico have been patiently waiting for warm weather so they can go on some new adventures.

Patchy believes that if you wish hard enough, your dreams will come true. So he's wishing for sunshine and the promise of some new, fun adventures. He and Calico have been looking over their book Patchy and Calico's Summer Vacation,  reminiscing and making plans for this year.

To celebrate the promised (eventual) end of cold weather, snow, ice and going stir-crazy sitting around the house, the two friends decided to put Summer Vacation on sale. They hope you will join with them in wishing for warm weather.

Only $1.99 for a limited time....Patchwork Dog has a knack for getting into trouble and his best friend, Calico Cat usually winds up right in the middle of the mess with him. Calico would rather spend her days sleeping in her nice comfortable bed, staying safe and worry free. She knows better than to follow Patchy when he is out looking for a new adventure, but she tags along anyway just in case…

On the other hand, Patchy is very curious and is always investigating new sights, sounds and smells. He follows his nose wherever it goes. Sometimes that leads to trouble but other times it gives Calico a chance to play a trick on her not so smart friend.

Children will laugh out loud when the two lovable creatures go to the beach where Patchy comes nose to claw with a fiddler crab, or when they take a walk through the woods and meet a not too friendly bear who can not decide whether to help the two lost campers or eat them.

In the other stories, children will enjoy reading about how Patchy and Calico accidentally join the circus, take an unplanned boat ride and get caught sneaking into a school classroom.

Patchy and Calico’s Summer Vacation has illustrations at the beginning of each chapter that hint at what the new adventure will be about. Other pictures are included at the end of each story along with some questions for the child to answer. Older children can read the stories themselves or it would make a wonderful bedtime story book for younger kids. The five tales will entertain children of all ages with the antics of the title characters and hopefully teach youngsters some valuable lessons about working together and staying out of trouble.

WOW! What a Ride

PictureMy husband, Robert DeBurgh and me at a book signing a few months ago. A special thank you to Robert for putting up with me being on the computer all day, every day for the past two weeks.
The past two weeks have flown by and what a lovely ride it has been!
First of all, I had a 99 cent book blitz for Gerald and the Wee People and some wonderful people from MasterKoda.com helped with my blog hop. Brenda, Dianne, DeEtte, Jane, Lisa, Kim, Tammy, Jennifer, Vickie, Robert, Lori, Lynda and Kimberly, thank you all so much.
Wee People is still 99 cents, if anyone is  interested, and there is a book review/excerpt/interview and rafflecopter still going on at Books Direct.
Along with the book blitz, we had a two-week Facebook event called, "Inspiring Children...One Book at a Time." We had some very interesting conversations about books, kids, teens, bullying, parents and other caregivers,  and brainstormed on ways to get books in the hands of the younger generation.  We also had a daily 'Author Feature', introducing new books by children's/MG/YA authors. The event was in conjunction with new posts on the Inspiring Children blog and was a grand success! Thanks to everyone who attended.
We have started a Facebook group to continue our efforts in encouraging parents, grandparents, teachers and all caregivers of children and teens to have books available in order to turn young minds into great minds.  We believe the greatest gift you can give a child/teenager is the gift of reading. Books open doors and transport the reader to exciting places, new worlds, and entices a thirst for knowledge.  You are more than welcome to come join in this endeavor.
Also I found out that House on Bo-Kay Lane, the second book in the Wee People series is a semi-finalist in the kindlebookreview.com book awards. What a surprise! I got two wonderful reviews for Bo-Kay Lane as well. One from Mary Brown Daugherty and the second from Nicole Storey.

Speaking of Nicole Storey, the first book in her Celadon Circle series, Blind Sight, will be released on July 18th! In celebration, she plans to host a book launch that will take place on her Facebook author page and blog. There will be prizes and giveaways, excerpts, fun pictures, contests, and more!
Be sure and attend - 12:00 p.m. Est. time on July 18th.

Gee whiz, that's enough for now...just wanted to share all my good news and to thank everyone who has made it all possible. See ya at Nickie's book launch on the 18th.

Reading -The Greatest Gift You Can Give a Child

Kids are great....as long as they belong to someone else.

Not necessarily so.

Whether or not the kid belongs to you, what could be better than sitting with a child in your lap reading a book?

Think about it:
A preschooler looking at the pictures and getting all excited when the page is turned and a new picture appears.
The child taking over and telling his/her own story to go along with the illustrations.
The giggles when a silly dog thinks he can fly like a bird and winds up falling flat on his face or when the silly pooch sticks his nose where it doesn't belong and gets his nose pinched by a fiddler crab. (sorry, I just had to plug Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat)
Sometimes, you can see the wheels turning in the young mind and then days later, questions may pop up out of the blue about a story you read together.
You will know the love of reading has continued to grow when a middle grader or teen is constantly late for supper because he/she just had to finish a chapter (or two) first.

Congratulations, you have passed the reading bug on to the next generation.

Many of us have stories about our experiences with books and now you have a place to share them. We have started a new blog called "Inspiring Children...One Book at a Time" where you can share your tales of reading or books that made an impression on you or someone you love. Take a look and send me an email if you would like to contribute a guest post, greta799(at)yahoo(dot)com.

One of the most valuable gifts you can give a child is the love of reading.
